Wodonga TAFE Launches its Reconciliation Action Plan

Thursday, 29 October 2020

It’s with great pride that Wodonga TAFE launched its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Wodonga TAFE is proud of its history and achievements in working with our community, businesses, industry and government, to deliver a high-quality education and training experiences to build success through learning.

By launching their Reflect – Reconciliation Action Plan, Wodonga TAFE are acknowledging that there is more they can be doing and are committed to their reconciliation journey and providing opportunities and outcomes for the community.

Under their new Reconciliation Action Plan, Wodonga TAFE encourages all members of their community to actively engage with the initiatives and activities in the RAP, and work together to improve engagement, respect for and collaboration with, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Furthermore, embedding a RAP into the culture at Wodonga TAFE’s campuses, will assist staff in developing their own understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, colleagues and the wider community.

The RAP brings opportunities to increase both employment and education outcomes at Wodonga TAFE for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It aims to build partnerships with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and organisations within the community.

"I am excited to be part of Wodonga TAFE Reconciliation Action Plan and Working Group. It’s a privilege to be one of the people to represent the local Aboriginal community in this area, and to create greater opportunities for our mob collaborating together,” says Katrice May, Wodonga TAFE’s Koorie Liaison Officer.

“I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, the diversity and engagement within my role, and working with my inspiring and supportive colleagues. I can’t wait to further engage in our Reconciliation Action Plan to help boost the community participation and engagement of Wodonga TAFE with the local Aboriginal community, working together to create amazing outcomes for all."

“Various key initiatives to launch with the RAP will be giving the opportunity for staff and students to engage in external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focused events and having the ability to celebrate the RAP milestones with our partners,” explains Wodonga TAFE CEO Phil Paterson.

“Overall Wodonga TAFE hopes to provide a more culturally welcoming environment for all to enjoy within our campuses.”
