Wodonga TAFE proud to take part in ‘Activate by Embrace’ with local artist

Tuesday, 21 November 2023

Wodonga TAFE is proud to be welcoming renowned artist Kirrily Anderson to campus this week, where she will lead development of the ‘Embrace’ mural in conjunction with local youth.

As part of the ‘Activate by Embrace’ full-day immersive event to be held at La Trobe University’s Wodonga Campus this Wednesday 22 November 2023, attendees will also visit Wodonga TAFE’s McKoy Street campus to take part in outdoor games, and add their artistic flair to the mural under expert guidance from Kirrily.

Kirrily has already made her creative mark on the TAFE’s campus, with a large mural depicting themes around ‘belonging and inclusiveness’ created in 2022, in celebration of Wodonga TAFE’s Belonging Framework.

This week’s addition of another large-scale art piece will take place under cover on the wall of Wodonga TAFE’s Community Services and Health building, Building B, as a long-lasting reminder of the Embrace message in the local community.

Jenni Myers, Educational Leader Community Services and Health, said it is very exciting to be involved in the ‘Activate by Embrace’ project. “The artwork to be created by local artist Kirrily Anderson and the students attending the youth event will be a prominent feature of our campus.”

“Wodonga TAFE prides itself on being a place where everyone belongs”, said Jenni. “Having young people developing their skills to feel confident about their bodies with no judgement or shame creates strong, positive, happy young people. The mural will be a lasting colourful reminder for us all to embrace who we are.”
