Certificate III in Carpentry

Overview

This course provides the training component of a carpentry apprenticeship in the housing and industrial sectors of the carpentry trade. A large range of elective units suits all areas of carpentry, domestic and commercial construction, formwork, and industrial carpentry work, ensuring that your apprentices learn the skills they need to work effectively in your business. Wodonga TAFE offers onsite assessments for your apprentices which means that apprentices have increased productivity and less ‘down’ time away from your business. Our teaching staff also offer you full support to complete training reports, allowing you more time to work on your business. Skills recognition and gap training are also available if your workers have previous industry experience but do not hold qualifications.

Apprenticeship, Part-time: 4 years

Schedule

This course is delivered via workplace training with some units in the classroom and in the workshop. Onsite assessment is available. Block release study arrangements available.

Requirements

You must be employed in the industry and undertaking an apprenticeship OR you must have significant experience in the industry without a formal qualification to gain recognition for prior learning assessments.

Skills developed

Use carpentry tools and equipment (inc. explosives) and handle carpentry materials
Carry out general demolition of minor building structures, setting out and levelling operations
Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
Plan and organise work and communicate
Carry out measurements and calculations and interpret specifications and plans
Carry out excavation, concreting to simply forms
Work safely at heights
Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
Install flooring systems
Construct wall frames, ceiling frames, pitched roofs, eaves and roof trusses

With further experience after you’ve completed your apprenticeship-level training, you may wish to go on to a Certificate IV in Building in Construction to enable yourself to become a registered builder.
