VDSS Taster Day Welcomes Future Students to McKoy Street Campus

Tuesday, 13 May 2025

Last Friday, up to than 100 local high school students visited our McKoy Street campus for the VDSS Taster Day; a dedicated event designed to give students a deeper understanding of the VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS) program. Organised by VDSS Coordinator Kirstie Eddington, the day aimed to help prospective students explore vocational education as a potential study pathway by immersing them in hands-on learning experiences.

Students took part in two-hour sessions that mimicked what it’s like to be an on-site VDSS student, including hands-on activities directly related to their chosen industry areas. The sessions were led by our passionate teachers who created engaging, practical experiences to showcase what students could expect from the program.

The sessions run on the day included course/industry areas:

  • Salon Assistant
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Building & Construction
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Engineering
  • Agriculture
  • Cookery
  • Health Services

Positive feedback was received from students at the conclusion of the event. The success of the event was made possible thanks to the dedication of the teaching departments involved, and the support of the CIE team, whose event experience ensured everything ran smoothly. The next step will involve gathering further feedback from schools and maintaining relationships with students and educators ahead of the VDSS enrolment period later this year.
