Wodonga TAFE Photography student highly commended at state awards
Mr Olivier Nzovu, a Wodonga TAFE Photography graduate, received recognition as an up-and-coming filmmaker at the 2020 Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence. Presented as an online ceremony on Wednesday 16 December, the Awards saw Olivier receive a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Media section of the Awards.
“Filmmaker Olivier Nzovu arrived in Wodonga from a Congolese refugee background two years ago. He has since worked hard to draw attention to local multicultural communities and give voice to newly arrived and established culturally and linguistically diverse individuals and communities in regional Victoria. Olivier has been the director, editor, photographer, camera operator and sound editor for several film projects, and worked tirelessly with interpreters to ensure his films are accessible to non-English and English-speaking communities. His recent short film for Refugee Week helped to increase social cohesion between the mainstream community living in Wodonga and emerging CALD communities from refugee backgrounds.”

The Victorian Multicultural Awards honour extraordinary Victorians for their service to our multicultural society, and the ceremony recognised the outstanding achievements of people and organisations who strengthen multiculturalism across 15 categories. The Awards are proudly coordinated by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, on behalf of the Victorian Government.
Olivier previously completed English Language studies with Wodonga TAFE and is a recent graduate of the Certificate IV in Photography and Photo Imaging.
Wodonga TAFE’s teacher of Photography and Photo Imaging, Ms Tania Martini, said Olivier’s success was so exciting and very well deserved. “Olivier has been in Australia for around 18 months and has achieved so much in the short time he has been here. He has started his own media business and produced video and photography content for 2AY, Albury Wodonga Ethnic Community Council, Albury Council, Wodonga Council, Gateway Health, and Victoria Police, just to name a few”, said Tania. “We are very excited and proud to hear of Olivier’s success amid fierce competition.”
