Skills and Jobs Centre Services

Appointments are funded by the Victorian Government. You will receive free, independent and impartial advice and work one-on-one with an experienced and qualified team member, with the focus on you, your needs and your goals.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

For Victorian Early Leaver Connection Initiative Career Advice Service Career Practitioner Appointments:

  • Aged 15 to 20 and have not completed Year 12
  • If under 17, must have a formal school exemption
  • Parents or carers of young people aged 15 to 20 who have not completed Year 12

For Career and Pathways Adviser & Career CounsellorAppointments:

  • Open to everyone
  • All Victorians and Victorian employers are eligible, regardless of visa status

What you can expect with a Victorian Early Leaver Connection Initiative (VELCI) Career Advice Service Career Practitioner appointment

For those aged 15 to 20 years old and have not completed Year 12

  • learn more about the VELCI Career Advice Service available to you
  • support with your education, training, or employment options


For parents and carers of young people aged 15 to 20 years old who has not completed Year 12

  • learn more about the VELCI Career Advice Service and how your young person can access career, education, training, or employment support
What you can expect with a Career and Pathways Adviser appointment
  • assistance with your resume, cover letters, interviews, job search support, and practical support to help you confidently apply for jobs
  • explore study options and provide you with course and pathway information and Free TAFE
  • advice tailored to meet your unique needs and goals with personalised advice based on your skills, interests and career goals
  • industry trends and labour market information and how to understand industries, occupations and local job opportunities
What you can expect with a Career Counsellor appointment
  • review of your work experience and an assessment of your skills, values, interests, and strengths
  • support to make informed decisions about decisions about education, training, career planning, and goal-setting
  • gain clarity about your career direction and what is important to you in identifying your next steps
  • navigating transitions such as (re)entering the workforce, redundancy, and/or changing careers
  • assist you to explore suitable industries or study paths that align with your career goals
