Overview
Take your drafting skills to the next level with the Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting. This course is designed for aspiring and current draftspersons who want to create precise, specialist engineering drawings for mechanical or manufacturing environments.
You’ll gain practical, industry-relevant experience in:
- Producing detailed 2D and 3D drawings and schematics that meet Australian Standards (AS)
- Construct 3D models and assemblies of mechanical parts, alongside conducting analysis and creating schematics for areas within the engineering sector.
- Using industry-leading CAD software, including AutoCAD and Inventor
- Applying engineering (Mechanical) principles and technical mathematics to real-world projects
- Developing and prototyping 3D models using 3D printing technology
Whether you’re employed in an engineering-related role, completing a traineeship, or aiming to start your career in the industry, this course is designed to fit your needs. This course offers applicants face to face classes. For an optional flexible / blended model including online learning and tutorials please request a discussion with the teaching department.
The Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting is also a Victorian-approved traineeship, with a maximum duration of 36 months.
Attendance Requirements - Wodonga
FULL TIME: 12 Months
Monday & Tuesday - Two (on-campus) workshops per month, 8am-4pm & evening classes (mix of on-campus and online sessions), 5.30pm-9pm.
PART TIME: 24 Months
First Years - One workshop per month, 8am-4pm & Monday evening classes (mix of on-campus and online sessions), 5.30pm-9pm
Second Years - One workshop per month, 8am-4pm & Tuesday evening classes (mix of on-campus and online sessions), 5.30pm-9pm
Distance, flexible or blended learning arrangements may be considered on consultation with the teaching department.

PART TIME: 24 Months
First & Second Years - Thursday, 9am-3pm (1 day a week) additional online sessions available
Please Note - When you study a Wodonga TAFE course delivered at a GOTAFE campus, You'll be enrolled as a Wodonga TAFE student - with all training, assessment and administration provided by Wodonga TAFE, and full access to academic and student support services from both Wodonga TAFE and GOTAFE.

Full-time: 12 Months, Part-time: 24 Months (Students already with trade qualifications may receive credit transfer where applicable)
Requirements
You will either be employed, or looking to be employed, within an engineering-related industry directly, or under an Australian Traineeship agreement.
Notebook / computer is required to complete Moodle tasks and project assessment work in learners own time. Geometry box (compass, set square, ruler, dividers, protractor, pencil, eraser) is to be supplied by the learner. Calculator to be supplied by the learner.
Technology Recommendation (for online students): While not a formal requirement, it is strongly recommended that online students have access to a dual-screen setup; such as a desktop with two monitors, or a laptop connected to an additional screen. This setup will allow you to watch live classes or recordings while simultaneously working on your drafting tasks, improving workflow and learning efficiency.
Field Placement
Please note: Optional placement may be available for interested students with local employers.
Assessment
The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course outcomes. You will be assessed through a combination of practical work skills and theory testing, through completion of projects, class exercises, participation, written assignments and tests.
Other Information
Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting is an approved Traineeship in Victoria and New South Wales, with a maximum duration of 36 months. The training plan would be delivered within the first 24 months, with the remainder of time on the job.
