Overview
Gain the skills and knowledge you need to work in an education support role or a special education-focused support role in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education, where you will provide assistance and support to teachers and students. Graduates with this qualification are able to work in schools alongside classroom teachers, and many graduates also continue with into studies at university in a teaching degree such as primary or secondary education while working in an Education Support role.
Delivery Methods
- Blended – Teaching and assessment will be conducted on-campus and online.
- Traineeship – Teaching and assessment will be required to be conducted as part of a traineeship
- Workplace/Blended Industry - A mix of on-campus and teaching/assessment conducted at your workplace and during timetabled sessions

Duration
Blended learning (on-campus and online), full-time: 12 months. | Workplace/blended industry (currently working in industry): 12 months. | Traineeship: 12-24 months.
Schedule
Blended (on-campus and online): 2024 midyear intake commencing Wednesday 17 July 2024, 9am-4pm. This course is delivered as a combination of Zoom and classroom-based teaching on Wednesdays, 9am-4pm, either monthly or at times twice each month (when you accept your offer to enrol into this course you will receive an email with a timetable included).
Workplace/blended industry: Attendance is required at workshops, 2.30pm-5pm (approximately 2 workshops per month as per advised timetable) and occasional holiday workshops. This delivery option is available for workers currently employed in an education or special education-focused support role in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools.
Traineeship: Individual training plans will be developed in consultation with your employer, as part of your traineeship. Attendance is required at workshops, 2.30pm-5pm Tuesdays (approximately 2 workshops per month as per timetable) and occasional holiday workshops. This delivery option is for workers currently employed in an education or special education-focused support role in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools. Requirements
Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of their first placement.
All students are required to complete a practical component of the course that is 100 hours.
A Working With Children’s Check (Victoria and New South Wales) and a National Police Check will be required to undertake your placement for this course. Please note there may be a cost associated with these checks.

The aims of the Practical Placement are to:
- apply knowledge and skills learned during your studies in the workplace
- become familiar with employers’ expectations
- increase your employment options and employability skills
- gain skills that are recognised by industry, and
- make contact with employers.
For non-industry students: placement uniform shirts and badges will be provided by Wodonga TAFE. Placement services may also have expectations around workwear requirements.
For non-industry students: there may also be a requirement for students to travel for placement.
