Grow your Community Services Career - Become a Social Worker

Apply now for Wodonga TAFE and La Trobe University’s new TAFE to University pathways partnership: Grow Community Services Careers Program

  • Be mentored throughout the Grow Program as you complete your studies with Wodonga TAFE.
  • Be supported with customised university preparation and transition to La Trobe University and throughout your degree studies.

Here’s how to be a participant in the Grow Community Services Careers Program

1. Have a passion for becoming a Social Worker.
The Grow Program is designed to provide additional support and mentoring to people with a career goal of becoming a Social Worker. Applicants may be:

  • new to study in Community Services/Social Work
  • existing TAFE students with a vocational goal to complete their study pathway at the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) level
  • returning to study at  Wodonga TAFE or La Trobe University to advance their qualifications and career opportunities in Community Services/Social Work.

2. Choose your entry point:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services CHC42021 (Free TAFE opportunities available)
    Offered on campus at Wodonga TAFE (includes community service project), or as a workplace traineeship.
  • Diploma of Community Services CHC52021 (Free TAFE opportunities available)
    Offered on campus at Wodonga TAFE (includes 400 hours of work placement). 
  • Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)
    Offered at La Trobe University Albury Wodonga as a flexible program to include continued employment and promote career progression.

Certificate IV in Community Services

FREE TAFE: This course is free to eligible individuals

Make a positive impact within the communityDevelop the skills and knowledge you need to work as a community service worker, designing and delivering person-centred services to individuals and/or groups. Learn to provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services.

Diploma of Community Services

FREE TAFE: This course is free to eligible individuals

Develop the professional and empathetic skills to work within a community organisation to effectively assist individuals, families and communities in their social environments. You will gain the skills and knowledge for roles that involve service delivery, either direct client work and/or community education or development projects. Job opportunities include community services and case management work involved in the managing, coordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities.

Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)

La Trobe University's Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) allows you to build on your Community Services qualifications and take the next step in your career. Build on a strong foundation of social work with a blend of sociology, psychology, and human services.
