Overview
This course is available for both apprentices and non-apprentices. Learn with practical hands-on experience in our fully-equipped Hair Design Salon! Successful completion of the Certificate III in Hairdressing will give you the skills and knowledge you need to be employed as a hairdresser working as part of a team in a hairdressing environment. You will become competent in communicating in the workplace, consulting with clients, selling products and services, and designing and applying a broad range of technical hairdressing services on clients. You will possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required and be responsible for your own output.
Attendance required:
- On campus (non-apprenticeship): 2 days per week for 2 years. Subject to you completing a Certificate II in Salon Assistant or equivalent qualification. * (18 months)
- Apprentices: 1 day per week 8.30am-4.30pm, with 2 salon visits per year. Minimum 2 years. Monthly progress updates.
Please note: *To successfully complete the Certificate III in Hairdressing you must complete 21 core units and 7 electives (28 in total).
Delivery Methods
- On-campus – The majority of teaching and assessment is conducted on-campus
- Apprenticeship – Teaching and assessment will be required to be conducted as part of an apprenticeship

Apprenticeship: 1 day per week Wednesdays 8.30am-4.30pm with monthly salon visits. Minimum 2 years
Requirements
On campus (non-apprenticeship):
- Applicants must have completed Certificate II in Salon Assistant or equivalent qualification.
- Applicants must also attend an interview prior to course entry.
Field Placement
This course includes the opportunity for optional industry placement. You'll be able to work with an employer to gain hands-on, relevant industry skills. This will help you gain a broader understanding of the industry, and build direct connections and networks with employers.
Placement to be arranged by the student over the period of training.
Assessment
The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course outcomes. A range of assessment strategies to meet different student’s needs will be selected, including theoretical and practical assessments, assessing your hair design and capabilities.
