Overview
This course is available for both apprentices and non-apprentices. Learn with practical hands-on experience in our fully-equipped Hair Design Salon! Successful completion of the Certificate III in Hairdressing will give you the skills and knowledge you need to be employed as a hairdresser working as part of a team in a hairdressing environment. You will become competent in communicating in the workplace, consulting with clients, selling products and services, and designing and applying a broad range of technical hairdressing services on clients. You will possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required and be responsible for your own output.
Attendance required:
- Non-apprenticeship: On-campus workshops are delivered 9am-4pm
Year 1 - Tuesday & Wednesday (for 12 months) Year 2 - Monday (for 6 months)
- Apprenticeship: 1 day per week 8.30am-4.30pm with monthly salon visits. Minimum 2.5 years
Apprentice: Individual training plans are developed in consultation with your employer.
- First year apprentices - Tuesday
- Second year apprentices - Wednesday
- Third year apprentices - Monday (6 months)
Please note: *To successfully complete the Certificate III in Hairdressing you must complete 21 core units and 7 electives (28 in total).
Duration
Public: 18 months
Apprenticeship: 2.5 - 4 years
Requirements
On campus (non-apprenticeship):
- Applicants must attend an interview prior to course entry.
Additionally, it is recommended that applicants have completed a Certificate II in Salon Assistant or equivalent qualification.
Field Placement
It is highly recommended that students seek and arrange placement over the period of training.
Assessment
The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course outcomes. A range of assessment strategies to meet different student's needs will be selected, including theoretical and practical assessments, assessing your hair design and capabilities.
