Intensive AS1796 Certified Welding 1-9 Weld Australia

Overview

This course is ideal for welders who already have industry experience and are looking to formalise their skills through AS1796 certification. The program provides approximately 40 hours of guided, hands-on training, with a strong focus on preparing for the practical examination conducted by Weld Australia.

Participants will receive targeted instruction and feedback from experienced trainers to help refine their techniques and meet the required welding standards. During the course, participants will nominate a specific welding ticket (Levels 1–9) to focus on, covering a range of processes, materials, and welding positions depending on the selected certification.

Please note: This course is designed as a preparation program only. The formal certification assessment is conducted by Weld Australia, typically shortly after completion of the training.

Available Certification Tickets (AS1796)

Participants will nominate one of the following welding tickets to focus on during the course:

• Ticket 1: MMAW on carbon steel plates (rutile & general-purpose electrodes)
  Positions: PC (2G), PE (4G), PB (2F), PF (3F)
• Ticket 2: MMAW on carbon steel pipes (rutile & general-purpose electrodes)
  Positions: PC (2G), PH (5G)
• Ticket 3E: MMAW on alloy steel plates (low hydrogen electrodes)
  Positions: PC (2G), PE (4G), PB (2F), PF (3F)
• Ticket 4: MMAW on alloy steel pipes (low hydrogen electrodes)
  Positions: PC (2G), PH (5G)
• Ticket 5: GTAW root run + MMAW (hydrogen-controlled electrodes) on alloy steel pipes
  Positions: PC (2G), PH (5G)
• Ticket 6: Oxy acetylene welding on carbon steel pipes
  Positions: PC (2G), PH (5G)
• Ticket 7: GTAW on carbon steel pipes
  Positions: PC (2G), PH (5G)
• Ticket 8G: GMAW on carbon steel plates and pipes
  Positions: PC (2G), PA (1G), PB (2F), PF (3F)
• Ticket 8F: FCAW on carbon steel plates and pipes
  Positions: PC (2G), PA (1G), PB (2F), PF (3F)
• Ticket 9: Submerged arc welding (SAW) on carbon steel plates
  Position: PA (1G)

Welding Position Key

• PA (1G): Flat butt weld
• PC (2G): Horizontal butt weld
• PE (4G): Overhead butt weld
• PB (2F): Horizontal fillet weld
• PF (3F): Vertical fillet weld
• PH (5G): Multiple position butt weld

Requirements

To enrol, you’ll need to meet one of the following criteria:

• With Trade Certificate: 150 hours of documented welding experience
• Without Trade Certificate: 300 hours of documented welding experience

Evidence of experience can be provided via a certified employer letter detailing your welding work, including:

• Welding processes used
• Types of joints completed
• Material thicknesses
• Welding positions performed

On The Day Requirements

Students must attend the days in full PPE, including but not limited to:

• Full length cotton workshirt, long work pants (or full cover cotton overalls)

• Safety boots

• Safety glasses

• Welding helmet

• Welding jacket

• Long leather gloves (forearm coverage).

Assessment

A range of assessment strategies will be used to enable students to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and attributes.

• Working safely to industry and compliance standards

Certification

Upon successful completion and passing of the certification exam, participants will receive AS1796 certification issued by Weld Australia.
