Overview
As an apprentice fabricator (boilermaker or metal fabricator), you will learn and develop skills in metal fabrication, pattern development and, welding that are required to work as an Fabrication Tradesperson – within the metal, engineering, manufacturing or associated industries.
You must be employed under an Australian Apprenticeship Agreement to undertake this course.

Duration
APPRENTICESHIP, FULL-TIME: 4 YEARS
Day release or block release available.
Requirements
You must be a signed-up through an employer in an Australian Apprenticeship Agreement. We recommend that you have basic language and literacy skills. We recommend that you complete Year 10 maths and science. Must supply own PPE, including Welding helmet, Safety boots, suitable clothing and safety glasses. Must supply own hand tools, calculator, writing materials (blue or black pens, 2H pencils pacer style, eraser) and measuring equipment. Learning material is on Moodle, hence it recommended to bring own laptop (laptops are available to loan while on campus).
Toolbox containing the following tools:
- 300mm steel rule
- 5m tape or equivalent
- Engineers or combination square
- Centre punch
- Scribe
- 25mm chisel
- Dividers 250-300mm “wing” not spring
- Engineers hammer
Field Placement
The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course and employer outcomes. A range of assessment strategies to meet different student's needs will be selected, involving on-campus and workplace assessment. To successfully complete this course, students must complete work outside of the classroom, meaning you will be required to complete work at home/in your own time.
The skills and knowledge you develop from your training will be assessed using a combination of the following methods: -Observation at work -Observation in simulated environment (e.g. at TAFE) -Project/assignment/activity -Practical assessment -Interview/oral questioning -Portfolio of your work -Third party (workplace) report
