Certificate IV in Motor Sport Technology
About this Course
In this second year of study (following the Certificate III in Motor Sport Technology AUR30916) you will achieve the Certificate IV in Motor Sport Technology AUR40316, which is supported by additional units of competency identified as valuable to the motorsports industry. This program develops more advanced technical skills in preparation for a successful career in the industry. Theory (classroom activity) is consolidated with ‘hands-on’ workshops and trackside experience with a range of MTA equipment including a V8 Supercar, Formula Ford, karts, a speedway car and other vehicles from our partner organisations.
•Vehicle setup including the selection of wheels, tyres, spring rates and aerodynamic settings
•3-dimensional computer-aided drawing (CAD), finite element analysis, CNC machining, shock absorber and engine testing using a dynamometer.
•Overhauling assemblies such as engines, transmissions and brakes
•Advanced composites including making patterns and moulds
•A range of additional automotive competencies including LPG systems, forced induction, ABS brakes and stability control systems

AURTTX009 Overhaul automatic transmissions
AURTTX008 Overhaul manual transmissions
AURTTF006 Diagnose and repair petrol carburettor systems
The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course outcomes. A range of assessment strategies to meet different student’s needs will be selected, including reports, tests, practical assessments of your abilities, placement assessments and demonstrations.
By successfully completing this course you will receive an AQF Qualification

Students are required to undertake placements that are organised by Motorsports Training Australia. These placements are with our industry and racing partners, and enable students to get a real-life, real-work feel for their chosen career. As an example, in 2015 these placements were conducted with Pedders Racing as MTA students saw to all maintenance both off-track and in pit lane throughout the Australian Manufacturers Championships Class D 2015 season (which we’ll add, MTA students helped Pedders Racing take out the championship!).
You need to have completed the Certificate III in Motorsport or Certificate III in Motorsport Technology.

As is the nature of the motorsports industry and race meets, you will be required to do placements (and perhaps extra work for racing teams) on weekends.
This could also be a stepping stone into an engineering career by taking up further study opportunities via university and possibly gaining recognition of prior learning. Should you change your mind, after completing this qualification the vast majority of your study will be complete already should you wish to undertake a general auto mechanic apprenticeship.
