Overview
A Home Energy Rating helps households understand how their home uses energy, where improvements can make the biggest difference, and how to reduce running costs and increase comfort. As the Federal Government rolls out Home Energy Ratings for existing homes nationally, the need for accredited assessors to deliver them is growing fast.
The Home Energy Rating for Existing Homes course gives you the practical knowledge and industry-recognised skills to meet that demand. You'll learn to assess household energy use, evaluate thermal performance, advise clients on improvements, and use the professional software tools; AccuRate Enterprise and magicplan, that underpin every formal assessment.
Delivered fully online with a blend of self-directed study and live sessions, this course supports your eligibility to apply for NatHERS accreditation as a Home Energy Rating assessor for existing homes; a credential that positions you at the forefront of a growing and government-backed profession.
A limited number of government-funded places are available for eligible applicants in ACT, NSW, and border regions, with a streamlined pathway available for former Residential Efficiency Scorecard assessors. Places are strictly limited — expressions of interest open 1 July 2026.
Previously accredited participants:
Former Residential Efficiency Scorecard assessors who were accredited when that program concluded on 23 June 2026, accredited NatHERS for new homes assessors, or those licensed under the ACT Energy Efficiency Rating disclosure program are eligble for a streamlined training pathway:
