Certified Pilot Vehicle Driver (Refresher)

Overview

Have you ever seen vehicles at the front and back of a truck that's carrying an oversize load? Those vehicles are 'pilot vehicles' and this is the course to be able to do it! The pilot vehicle operator course is a requirement for those who wish to apply for a pilot escort licence through VicRoads.

The second day of the course covers the traffic control component which is the Refresher that is required to be done every three years to maintain your Pilot licence.

Requirements

You must hold a Certified Pilot Vehicle Driver's Licence to undertake the Refresher program.

A Certified Pilot Driver's Authority expires 3 years after date of issue (of the Traffic Control certificate) and will only be renewed if written proof is provided of continuous piloting work over the previous 3 years to VicRoads. You are required to apply to VicRoads for your renewal - your renewal will not automatically be forwarded to you. If such proof is not provided and/or a Certified Pilot Authority has been expired for more than 12 months, a renewal will not be issued. The applicant will need to reapply for another Authority and will be required to provide all the information, including attend a training course, pass the assessments again, and obtain a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency in traffic control.

Applications for renewal should be made online and documented proof of continuous piloting work over the past 3 years, together with a new Traffic Control certificate (Statement of Attainment). A renewal fee is applicable at the time of application. Please also note there are NO canteen facilities available at our Logic Campus. There are vending machines with limited options available and a BP Service Station located within 5 minutes' drive of the campus, otherwise bring your own food and drink when completing a course at our Logic Campus.

Assessment

Assessment is both theory and practical, with the theory being open book.

Other Information

The Pilot Vehicle Refresher course (1 unit of competency) is held for 1 day, and is always the 2nd day of the full CPVD course. The price is $350 pp
