Certificate I in Transition Education

Overview

This course provides an introduction to adult learning, and is specifically designed for learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment or intellectual disability. The focus is on supporting learners to investigate opportunities for active community participation and to develop self-confidence and skills for independent living. This course assists learners to develop life skills and supports self development so they can explore suitable future options such as employment, further study or community participation.

Evidence of permanent cognitive impairment/intellectual disability will be collected at the pre-training review and could include:

• Formal assessment by a registered medical practitioner
• Doctors/specialist reports
• Attendance at a Specialist School/SDS
• Integration support at school
• Integration support at school with modified curriculum.

Duration

Full-time: 10 months

Requirements

Students must have evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment or intellectual disability. All students must attend a pre-training interview to determine their suitability, discuss goals, and to identify any barriers to learning.

Information Sessions

Information sessions can be individualised - please contact us to arrange a time.
Students may also attend a ‘School Experience Day’ on campus, or in term 3 of each year we have a ‘Come and Try’ day where future students are welcomed on campus to explore student life.

Field Placement

While most of the learning occurs in the classroom there are frequent excursions and outings scheduled throughout the year.

Assessment

Assessments include:

• developing a work portfolio
• class participation and assignments

Held on our Mc Koy St Campus, our teachers and course information experts will be on site to answer all of your course related questions and help you to navigate the enrolment process.

Please note depending on individual circumstance there may be additional costs that apply throughout the completion of your qualification. These will be discussed further with your Course Coordinator, and may include:

• Working With Children Check
• National Police Check
• Vaccination requirements
• In addition to supplied materials, it is also recommended you bring: A4 lecture notebook or paper, ruler, pens, pencils, eraser, and pencil case.

Pathways

Students may go on to further study - Certificate I in Work Education. This program will help you determine an appropriate pathway to further studies, employment, or volunteer work.
