Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Wodonga TAFE has adopted the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to help support and raise awareness of those living with a hidden disability that may not be so obvious to the casual observer. In Australia and New Zealand 1 in 5 people are said to have a disability, 80% of these are hidden.

What is a hidden disability?

Hidden disabilities can sometimes be difficult for others to recognise, some examples of disabilities that may not be immediately obvious include autism, anxiety, chronic pain, dementia or learning difficulties.

Students studying at Wodonga TAFE can choose to wear the Sunflower in the form of a lanyard or wristband to discreetly indicate to teachers and staff that they need additional support, help, understanding or even a little more time.

As part of the Wodonga TAFE's involvement with the Hidden Disability Sunflower initiative, all staff are undertaking training to learn how to recognise the Sunflower, gain a deeper understanding of what non-visible disabilities are, and learn how to approach and support colleagues and students that are living with a hidden disability.

Exciting Transformation at Wodonga TAFE: Building A Renewal Project Begins

Creating a Welcoming Environment

We are thrilled to announce the commencement of the Building A renewal project, marking a significant milestone for our McKoy St campus. This exciting construction initiative will transform the current Main Administration Building, "Building A," into a modern Student Hub Precinct.

Wodonga TAFE's primary objective is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students. The new Student Hub will be a comprehensive one-stop-shop, offering:

  • Catering options and self-catering spaces
  • Learning pods and quiet spaces
  • Relocation of our library services from La Trobe's David Mann Library to become a core service in our upgraded facility
  • Small workspaces for study groups, visiting services, and event areas, including facilities for showcasing events
  • A front-facing student information centre to unify services, ensuring a seamless experience for all students, both on campus and remotely

Impact on McKoy Street Site – Construction Zone

Carpark Closure and Hoarding: The carpark in front of Building A, along with the surrounding areas, have been hoarded off as they fall within the designated construction site. This location has been handed over to Joss Constructions for their site offices and other necessary facilities, with hoarding covering some of these elements.

Traffic Management Plan: A comprehensive traffic management plan has been developed to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic around the construction site. Please adhere to the designated routes and follow all signage and instructions provided. We ask everyone to pay particular attention to the boundaries of the construction zone.

Pedestrian Passage Areas: Identified passage areas for pedestrian traffic have been clearly marked. We urge all pedestrians to use these designated pathways to ensure their safety and minimise disruption.

Stay tuned for more updates as we progress with this transformative project. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this exciting time of growth and improvement at Wodonga TAFE.
