Empowering Futures: Wodonga TAFE Students Champion Classy Kidz Program for Local Primary School Youth

Wodonga TAFE's Certificate IV Community Services students are teaming up with local charity Tots2Teens Albury Wodonga to launch the Classy Kidz program in Wodonga, aimed at assisting vulnerable primary school students in the local area. A “wear your Pyjamas to work/school day” will be held on Tuesday 18 June to help raise funds and awareness of this important local program.

The Tots2Teens charity has been working with children and young people in crisis for many years by providing care packs for children and young people fleeing Domestic Violence, entering kinship or foster care, or experiencing crises in their lives. Tots2teens is acutely aware of the long-lasting effects a traumatic experience can have on children and young people and believe that every child deserves to reach their full potential, despite their situation and difficulties.  Through the Classy Kidz Project they aim to help primary school children feel equal on the first day of school and throughout the year. "Every child deserves a shot at success, no matter their circumstances," says Joanne Nicholson. "Through Classy Kidz, we aim to build a supportive environment where every child can thrive." Operating on a referral system, the program allows teachers and wellbeing teams to identify and assist students in need.

“Studies emphasize the crucial role of school supplies in children’s academic success, underpinning the importance of programs like Classy Kidz in fostering equality and inclusion in schools.” Says Cathy Prior, Wodonga TAFE course coordinator. "The community services students are dedicated to making a difference. By raising awareness and donations for this vital program, the students will be ensuring Tots2Teens can have an ongoing impact in our local community."
