Thursday, 5 July 2018

Wodonga TAFE is celebrating finalist nominations in three categories at the 2018 Victorian Training Awards. Wodonga TAFE has been notified that it is a finalist for the 2018 Large Training Provider of the Year, together with teacher Sarah Whitling as a finalist for Teacher/Trainer of the Year, and student Christian Bashimbe a finalist for the Vocational Student of the Year.

The Award winners will be announced at the Victorian Training Awards gala event to be held on 24 August 2018 in Melbourne at Crown Palladium. Held annually, the Victorian Training Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of training providers, individuals, teachers and employers, with category winners then eligible for the National Training Awards. Wodonga TAFE was previously successful in winning the category of the Large Training Provider of the Year in both 2015 and 2008.

CEO Mark Dixon said being represented as finalists in three award categories is just another example of the great shape Wodonga TAFE is in.

‘We are very proud to be named as a Large Training Provider of the Year 2018 finalist. This recognition is a testament to the ongoing efforts of all our hardworking staff. It validates the work that we do every day as an education provider within our community and with industry.’

‘This success, and the fact that Wodonga TAFE is ranked number one in Victoria for student and employer satisfaction, is only possible because of the amazing people we have at Wodonga TAFE.’

‘Sarah Whitling is obviously one example of the brilliant staff we have at Wodonga TAFE.  Being named a finalist in the Teacher/Trainer of the Year category is really exciting for her, and well deserved.’

‘Her commitment to building opportunities for her students in their education pathways along with forging new links with industry makes her a true role model not only for her students, but for all of us.’

‘Hearing that Christian was named as a finalist in the Student of the Year category is just brilliant. Christian’s journey is an amazing one of vision and passion as he works to gain the skills and knowledge he needs to have a career in Community Service.’

‘From fleeing a war-torn homeland in Africa to winning Wodonga TAFE Student of the Year 2017, and now be recognised as a finalist in the Victorian Training Awards, he has worked extremely hard to turn hardship into a drive to succeed.’
