Conservation and Land Management with Wodonga TAFE

Friday, 21 December 2018

The environment is important to the livelihood of many Australian’s, with Indigenous people, farming families and many others having close links to the land. Studying at Wodonga TAFE will provide you the necessary skills to begin your CLM career, ensuring the hands on experience gained during the course will prepare you for an exciting career!

Whilst completing the course with Wodonga TAFE, students are invited to participate in a number of small projects with the City of Wodonga Council. These projects have previously included fencing, revegetation, erosion control and land management, giving students a great opportunity to network with those already in the industry and gaining relevant industry experience. Employment opportunities in the local region after completion of this course can vary, with Government employment through agencies like Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), North East Catchment Management Authority (NECMA), Parks Victoria (PV) and local councils. Each year DELWP and PV look for people to work as seasonal firefighters as part of their Forest Fire Management crews, with the skills learnt during a CLM qualification assisting in the development of the skills required for these positions.

Private organisations are also involved in the industry, with local businesses such as Enviro-Culture and Sandy Creek Trees who work with public, private and government agencies to complete conservation works. Parklands Albury Wodonga is a great local community-based organisation that is focused on ensuring the ongoing access and care of the extraordinary range of bush parkland that is in and around the Albury-Wodonga regions. Parklands undertake conservation works in these areas, whilst maintaining recreational access for the public.
