Students Unite Again in 2026 to End Violence
Monday, 26 October 2026
As we fast approach the end of the year, our Certificate IV in Community Services students have officially launched their annual group project. This year the students will again partner with Junction Support Services to bring you the Walk Against Violence.
A wave of orange, the signature colour of the United Nations’ global movement to End Violence Against Women, will sweep through Wodonga on 25 November as participants unite for the peaceful Walk along High Street, commencing and concluding at Woodland Grove beside the city’s iconic water tower.
Following the Walk, Gateway Health will host a vigil at Woodland Grove, providing an opportunity for the community to stand in solidarity with victim-survivors and honour the lives lost to gender-based violence. The vigil will create a space for reflection and remembrance.
Part of the United Nation’s 16 Days of Activism, the Walk aims to bring awareness to issues surrounding family and domestic violence. This years’ theme is “Unite to End Violence: Ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity.”
“This event project is a way for students to actively engage in their community and make a difference, as they will do once they enter the workforce with their qualifications under their belt,” says Cathy Prior, Community Services teacher at Wodonga TAFE. “Our students have been involved in this event for a number of years with growing success, and with even more organisations involved, this year’s event is sure to be even bigger and better again.”
The 16 Days of Activism rom 25 November to 10 December 2026. There are many ways for members of the public to get involved, with events being hosted all across the Albury/Wodonga border region. See the full event calendar and more information here.
