Some young people wait for opportunities. Others create them

For Caitlin, every challenge has been a chance to learn, grow and discover what she is capable of. From studying at Wodonga TAFE while still at school, to volunteering, pursuing leadership opportunities and now completing an engineering apprenticeship, her journey shows what can happen when young people back themselves and embrace new experiences.

While completing Year 12, Caitlin studied a Certificate III in Supply Chain Operations (TLI30325), along with a chainsaw short course, a hospitality skills short course and VET Building and Construction subject at school, through Wodonga TAFE. She completed three of the courses after school hours, while balancing her Year 12 commitments, showing her drive, commitment to learning and determination to create positive outcomes for her future. 

 These experiences helped her build practical skills, industry knowledge and confidence to pursue a career in engineering. She has since secured an apprenticeship with Albury Precision Engineering and is completing a Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical Trade.

Caitlin’s achievements reach well beyond the classroom. She volunteers as a firefighter with Wodonga West CFA, is active in scouting, and has earned the prestigious King Scout Award through her dedication to leadership, service and personal growth.

One of Caitlin’s most memorable experiences was spending 10 days aboard the Young Endeavour, where she stepped outside her comfort zone, built resilience and strengthened her leadership and teamwork skills.

Through hands-on learning and new experiences, Caitlin has gained the confidence to take on challenges, open new doors and shape her future.

At Wodonga TAFE, we are proud of young people like Caitlin. Her story reminds us that success comes from saying yes to opportunities, working hard, giving back and having the courage to take the next step. We can’t wait to see what she achieves next.
