Best Friends Building Their Future in Allied Health

Friday, 28 August 2026

For best friends, Izzy and Daisy, studying the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (HLT43021) has become much more than a pathway into healthcare. It has also been the foundation of a friendship that continues to grow every day.

After finishing Year 12, both young women wanted careers focused on helping people but were unsure which direction to take. Izzy was considering occupational therapy or physiotherapy and saw the course as a practical way to explore her options before committing to university. Daisy, who graduated in 2024 and took a gap year, was inspired by the care her grandmother received in hospital and knew she wanted to work in a helping profession. The course offered her the chance to gain hands-on experience before deciding on a university pathway.

Attending classes three days a week, the pair enjoy a mix of theory and practical learning. One of Daisy's highlights has been the course excursions, which provided valuable insight into real workplace environments. For Izzy, seeing classroom learning come to life during placement experiences has been particularly rewarding.

Although they knew of each other through their local soccer club, it wasn't until they met at TAFE that their friendship truly flourished. They now support each other through every challenge, whether it's preparing for assessments, sharing study tips, or simply being there to listen.

Outside of their studies, both enjoy playing soccer, spending time with friends and family, and balancing work commitments. Looking ahead, they hope their hospital placements will help them decide which area of allied health they would like to pursue. Their advice to other young people is simple: "Put yourself out there and give it a go. The experience is invaluable, and everyone at TAFE is there to help you succeed."
