Celebrating the Skills, Stories and Potential of Young People this World Youth Skills Day

Wednesday, 15 July 2026

15 July marks World Youth Skills Day – a global celebration of the skills that help young people build their futures. It's a chance to recognise the important role vocational education and training plays in preparing the next generation for meaningful careers and confident futures.

At Wodonga TAFE, our purpose is Realising Potential. Every day, we see how learning new skills can open doors, build confidence and change lives.

Every learner who walks through our doors brings their own ambitions, experiences and goals. Whether they're training as a tradie, nurse, business owner, creative or outdoor leader, they're gaining far more than a qualification. They're building the confidence, resilience and real-world skills to take on what's next.

That's what drives us. We create opportunities for people to grow, encourage curiosity and lifelong learning, build strong connections, and empower our learners to make a positive impact in their workplaces and communities.

More than a qualification

In 2025 we launched our Youth Ambassador Program, which empowers current and recently graduated students aged 17–24 to become advocates for vocational education while developing valuable leadership and employability skills.

Through the program, Youth Ambassadors contribute their voice to the student experience, represent Wodonga TAFE at community and industry events, support future students, and gain real-world experience in public speaking, networking and leadership. For many, it's an opportunity to grow personally while helping shape the future of education for others.

Celebrating youth stories

Over the past 12 months, we've also had the privilege of sharing the stories of some remarkable young people through our Youth Spotlight series.

Each spotlight has celebrated the unique journey of a Wodonga TAFE student or graduate – highlighting their ambitions, challenges, achievements and the different pathways that vocational education can create.

These stories remind us that success doesn't look the same for everyone. Whether it's pursuing a dream career, overcoming personal barriers, giving back to the community or discovering a passion they never expected, every journey demonstrates the value of practical skills, determination and opportunity.

Together, these stories showcase the incredible talent, diversity and potential of young people across our region.

Investing in the future

This year's World Youth Skills Day is a timely reminder that investing in young people is investing in the future of our communities.

As industries continue to evolve and new opportunities emerge, vocational education remains essential in helping young people develop the technical, digital and human skills needed for the workforce of tomorrow.

At Wodonga TAFE, we're proud to support the next generation of skilled workers, leaders and changemakers, and we're equally proud to celebrate their achievements every step of the way.
