About Free TAFE
The Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative aims to reduce the financial barrier for students wanting to train in courses that lead to priority occupations - those in demand from employers in the Victorian economy. Free TAFE for Priority Courses is a Victorian Government initiative that will pay a student’s tuition fees if eligible, to study one of the priority courses at TAFE. Students who are eligible for Victorian Government-subsidised training will not pay course tuition fees for a range of:
- Priority non-apprenticeship courses, state-wide
- Victorian Government-subsidised apprenticeship pathway courses (sometimes called pre-apprenticeships).
The Victorian Government has partnered with the Commonwealth Government to jointly invest up to $260 million under the JobTrainer Fund. JobTrainer will provide free or low-fee qualifications for thousands of people in a wide range of industries identified as having a genuine skills need and employment growth.
- Free or low-fee courses are available to Victorians who have been most impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.
- School leavers, job seekers and young Victorians can access free or low-fee (concession) qualifications in key industries and occupations, including Free TAFE courses, even if they hold a higher qualification.
