Diploma of Arboriculture

Overview

This course is ideal for those already well-versed in arboriculture - whether you have completed lower-level qualifications already or have significant practical work experience in the field.

Successful completion of this qualification will provide individuals with a broad range of specialised knowledge and skills in varied contexts to undertake manager and technical consulting roles in the arboriculture industry and as a pathway for further learning required for specialist technical consulting roles in the industry. Students will gain in-depth knowledge on tree identification, diagnosing tree disorders & defects and how to use this knowledge to prepare arborist reports for clients.

Course Commencement: Tuesday 12 March Block Release Days: Tuesday and Wednesday (2 Days a month x 8 Blocks a year) Time: 8.30am-4pm

The remaining study is completed online, at home, or in the workplace with self-directed learning.

• Pre-requisite units: AHCARB314 implement a tree maintenance program AHCARB323 Identify trees AHCARB316 Undertake pruning operations Can be completed as skillset - AHCSS00104 Introduction to arboriculture skillset
• Participants must have sufficient knowledge of the English language to perform work safely.
• Students must have a working knowledge of a Microsoft Word as well as basic knowledge in the use of Microsoft Excel. Other more extensive programs will be introduced through the course - such as CAD programs and QGIS.

Field Placement

Day trips within the North-East region may occur.

Skills developed

You will gain the skills, knowledge and expertise required to operate as a Consulting Arborist, including:
- Assessing trees
- Producing reports and documentation attesting to the health and risks related to trees
- Diagnosing tree disorders and defects
- Documenting and communicating recommendations for tree establishment, canopy management, tree remediation, environmental and habitat development and tree removals
- Operating within a legislative and regulatory framework.
- Preparing fee proposals for quotes and tenders
- Reviewing and auditing arboricultural operations
- Examining, inspecting, identifying, selecting, and specifying tress
- Arboricultural impact assessments including planning and monitoring the protection of trees on development sites

Certification

By successfully completing this course you will receive an AQF Qualification - Level 5.

Once you submit an application for this course you will receive a separate email from LLN Robot to complete both a Digital Assessment and a Learning, Reading, Writing, Oral and Numeracy Assessment (LLN Assessment) online.

Please check your junk mail if this does not come to your inbox. All students are asked to complete the Digital and LLN assessments to determine any support requirements and to ensure the course and mode of delivery is suitable for the student.

Please allow one hour to complete the Digital and LLN assessments. You will need a computer with speakers or headphones as there is an audio section in the LLN assessment.

Your LLN and Digital assessments will need to be completed one week after receiving it to progress your application to the next stage, or your application may be withdrawn due to inactivity.

Note: Completion of the LLN and Digital assessments does not guarantee a place in the course at Wodonga TAFE. Numbers are limited and selected applicants will be contacted to attend an interview. If an applicant is not accepted into their preferred course they will be contacted and provided information on alternate pathways and/or courses.
