FREE TAFE Initiative Benefits Local Community
Monday, 18 March 2019
The Victorian Government this year introduced an initiative to offer free TAFE courses covering industries that had a high amount of jobs in demand. Ultimately it reduces the financial barrier for students wanting to train in courses but cannot afford the upfront cost or access Government funding.
The Free TAFE for Priority Courses program is increasing the opportunity for our local community, by helping reskill and/or upskill locals and assist to develop our community for a prosperous future.
There are 25 priority courses on offer covering a range of industries from healthcare, to accounting and right through to building. The certificate levels offered range from Certificate II right through to Diploma with some apprenticeship and traineeship options also.
The year 2019 kicked off with a bang, with most courses now full, however there will be five Certificate II courses that will be available for enrolment at the beginning of semester two. These courses are a great ‘industry taster’ type of course that helps to develop the skills of students that employers look for when hiring staff. They involve confidence building and offer insight into the industry of study so that you have a good understanding prior to finding a job.
Students may be able to access this Free TAFE funding, so long as the study occurs on campus within Victoria. There are some eligibility requirements though, so ensure you check you qualify prior to enrolling into a course.
Wodonga TAFE have dedicated careers advisors on hand to help anyone interested in enrolling into a free course.
