Wodonga TAFE teacher Lana Hanssens named Teacher/Trainer of the Year finalist in 2017 Victorian Training Awards

Wodonga TAFE’s Teacher of the Year Lana Hanssens was today announced as a finalist in the 2017 Victorian Training Awards (VTA) Teacher/Trainer of the Year category.

One of three teachers to be named as finalist in the awards, Lana’s outstanding work, particularly with students in Wodonga TAFE’s Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) programs, now sees Lana being recognised as one of Victoria’s and Australia’s most outstanding vocational education teachers.

Lana’s unique and innovative approach to teaching extends beyond traditional teaching methods and delivery.  With a particular focus of working with students in the development and running of social enterprise projects as part of their educational experience.

Upon the announcement Lana said ‘I am really surprised and humbled by all of this. I love teaching and it’s really nice that others view what I am doing in a positive light.’

‘I am really lucky to have taught some absolutely fantastic young people through our VCAL program.  As my teaching peers would agree, it is our students that motivate us to find new and better ways to teach.’

Wodonga TAFE CEO, Mark Dixon said ‘Lana is an absolute star.  Her passion for teaching and care for her students is something very special.  She truly deserves this recognition, and we all have our fingers crossed that she takes out the award.’

The winner of the 2017 Victorian Training Awards Teacher/Trainer of the Year will be announced at the awards night being held at the Palladium, Crown, on October 11th 2017.

The winner of the award will then go on to the Australian Training Awards.
