Work Skills for Life students explore industry

Tuesday, 13 October 2020

The Work Skills for Life short course is designed to support post-school-age students with permanent intellectual disabilities.

The students have been exploring a range of industry areas as part of their Vocational Tasters unit, and the quick time-lapse videos below feature just some of the creativity from recent class activities.

Disability Classroom Assistant, Laura, said the videos are a fantastic snapshot of the amazing skills, learning and hands-on experiences the students get from their classes here at Wodonga TAFE.

"The students pictured here are exploring their chosen areas of vocation", said Laura. "And their amazing teachers make this happen for them by going above and beyond and sharing their own skills, knowledge, and and passion with our students."

"The students exploring the floristry industry are making a bridesmaid's bouquet using lilies, and the students who have been exploring the retail industry have been creating their own merchandise to sell, including Kokedama, a Japanese style of hanging plant."

Within the Work Skills for Life course, students are supported to experience many opportunities to boost their confidence, learn new skills, meet new people, and engage with education and community.

Students take part in vocational tasters across a variety of industry areas that may include choices from kitchen operations, hospitality, floristry, horticulture, landscaping, engineering, fitness, recreation, community services, creative industries, or building and construction. Practical hands-on experiences and working together to achieve team projects are just some of the highlights of this course, as are the visits to a range of industries and local businesses throughout the local region.
