Excellence Awards for Wodonga TAFE students

Tuesday, 16 April 2019

Two Wodonga TAFE students have been presented with Excellence Awards at La Trobe University Albury Wodonga’s graduation ceremony at The Cube.

Students, Bethany Weber (Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care) and Nicole Harding (Diploma of Community Services) were both nominated by their TAFE Course Coordinators as most outstanding students who passed all first year subjects as required and met competency requirements at Wodonga TAFE.

Bethany and Nicole both have taken part in a transition program between Wodonga TAFE and La Trobe University that offered formal supports from both education providers. This structured transition program is beneficial to students in easing transition to university should the choose to continue to the corresponding degree.

There are many benefits to choosing a transitional mode of study beginning at the TAFE level. They receive hands on practical skills from placement included in the TAFE diploma which ensure graduates are ready for the workforce upon graduation. Often times graduates of the Diploma find themselves with employment in their chosen industry as direct outcome of placement and can supplement their university degree with this work opportunity.

By completing the Diploma first graduates can sometimes have the option to credit out some of the units within the University degree which shortens the total time of the study load. The knowledge gained through the Diploma sets the student apart from the rest and can really give that student a kick-start in so many ways.

“These Awards are a fabulous achievement for both our students, and well-deserved recognition for their hard work and dedication to their studies,” explains Justine Rofe, Senior Educator, Educational Partnership, Wodonga TAFE.

“We are very proud of their accomplishments within their courses.”

“These students have both made the most of the opportunities offered to them as part of their studies here at Wodonga TAFE. They will be well-equipped with skills and knowledge for employment in their chosen industry when they complete their qualifications.”

“We are excited to see such positive outcomes for our students from the partnership between Wodonga TAFE and La Trobe University.”
