While you're here

Attendance

As well as being an important part of your learning, participation in classes and other learning activities provides you with an additional opportunity to demonstrate your competence. Some of your assessments may require your class attendance.

Absence

You may miss a competency activity or assessment through non-attendance at a class and may therefore be unable to achieve a complete result in the subject. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to find out the work that is required to catch up and to organise with teachers to complete any assessment tasks if required.

If you are aware that you will be unable to attend a particular class, you are expected to:

  • notify the teacher or department before the class
  • make arrangements with someone to take notes and collect handouts
  • negotiate with the teacher for make-up tasks to be completed.

Course feedback

Your teachers at Wodonga Institute of TAFE are committed to providing you with the highest possible quality in your learning program. To assist with this, we will frequently ask for your feedback on different aspects of your course by asking you to complete written evaluation sheets or by participating in a group discussion activity. We appreciate your honest and constructive comments and will make sure that your privacy is protected at all times.

Student Outcomes Survey

Each year, the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) conducts a survey of graduates (course and module completion) throughout Australia. The purpose of the survey, which is called the Student Outcomes Survey, is to measure such things as employment outcomes, and satisfaction with the training provided. Survey questionnaires are sent to a randomly selected sample of graduates of TAFEs and other registered training organisations. You may receive one of these surveys as a result of your time here at Wodonga TAFE. This is a way for you to provide valuable feedback to an independent organisation, that can then be used by Wodonga TAFE and other organisations in the education sector to improve programs for future graduates. We encourage you to participate if you receive one of these surveys.

Course withdrawal

If you intend to withdraw from your course, you should complete a 'CF005 Enrolment variation/withdrawal form'. You should consult with your course coordinator before you make the decision to withdraw from your course. In many cases, alternative learning programs can be developed to meet your changing needs. Please refer also to the information about refunds.

Employability skills

Employability skills are the general skills that play an important part in contributing to an employee's successful performance in the workplace.

Engage

Engage is Wodonga Institute of TAFE’s learner management program.

You participate in a one-on-one interview with an appropriate staff member (usually a teacher) before you start your course. This interview is your opportunity to identify any relevant skills and experiences that you have, in a formal recognition of prior experience and training. You may be able to reduce your study workload and create opportunities to gain more qualifications.

You and your teachers will identify career pathways and plan any additional support that may be needed to make your learning experience at Wodonga TAFE a successful and positive one.

The use of Engage is an innovative approach to managing the journey of our learners from initial engagement to employment, further study, and re-engagement. This learner skilling and mentoring process will help to identify points of intervention that are critical to your success.

During your studies you will meet with your ‘learning advisor/mentor’ as agreed, to receive feedback about your progress and if necessary, to work through any issues that may be impeding your progress.

We expect that this individualised support will result in increased retention, qualification completions, and learner satisfaction, helping to create a lifelong educational partnership between you and Wodonga TAFE.

Enrolment

Your enrolment at Wodonga Institute of TAFE is not finalised until you have signed an enrolment form that lists all of the courses you are undertaking and you have paid the required fees (or entered into an agreement for time payment of fees). If you are unsure about your current status, please check with your course coordinator or contact Administration Services.

Punctuality

Punctuality is essential in the workplace. You are expected to be punctual at Wodonga TAFE for the same reasons.

Your admittance to class upon late arrival will depend on the actual situation in class. If the teacher decides that your late arrival will interrupt the group’s learning process, presentations, guest speakers, or create a potentially unsafe situation, such as in a practical session, you will not be admitted to class.

Being late for classes may result in you missing an important part of the course or an assessment activity. It is your responsibility to negotiate with the teacher if you need to catch up on work not completed.

Skills recognition

You may be able to apply for credit for past study, work and/or life experience towards the course you are studying. View more information about skills recognition.

Timetable

Your teaching department will provide you with a timetable that details the days and times you are required to attend class and where your classes will be held. These timetables will be correct at the time of printing but are subject to change. It is your responsibility to check the student noticeboard for information about any room changes, cancellations, and/or other relevant information relating to your course.

Variations to enrolment

If you want to vary your enrolment by adding, changing, or removing any units or modules, you must complete a CF005 Enrolment variation/withdrawal form'. You should do this in consultation with your course coordinator.

For advice on whether any additional fees are payable, please contact Administration Services.
