Wodonga TAFE adds careers advice to your latté

Wodonga TAFE will be hosting free careers advice and recognition for prior learning (RPL) sessions every Friday during June and July at the Retro Café in Dean Street.

The free careers advice sessions will be an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to spend time with a qualified careers consultant.  RPL is also an important component of careers planning – many people don’t realise that their prior work and life experiences can be recognised toward accredited training, this can make a lot of difference in time and cost when exploring career enhancement opportunities.

According to Tom Lawson, Learner Services Manager at Wodonga TAFE, ”While we provide careers advice every day at our McKoy Street campus, this is a great way for busy people to discuss their career and study paths while in Albury either during work hours or while shopping.

“On a daily basis, we talk to people who are wondering how to navigate the many choices available for re-training or up-skilling while developing a meaningful career path that they can be truly passionate about,” said Mr Lawson.

“Our careers advisers have been trained to help you to determine what you want to do with your working life and what job prospects are out there, which are likely to suit your interests and strengths”, said Mr Lawson.

TAFE provides people with opportunities to enter training at a level that suits them – whether it is a certificate or a diploma. Flexible course choices and affordable payment options mean that it is absolutely possible to fit a course in around work and family commitments.

TAFE graduate Briony Willett who recently graduated with her Diploma in Caravan Park Management first wondered if it would be worth it and if she could fit her course around kids, work and life.

“Now I wouldn’t change a thing – I am working in the job and industry that I want to be in.  For anyone else out there who is thinking of making the change, just do it”, said Ms Willett.

“The teachers were really supportive and I was able to study on-campus and off-campus so I didn’t have to travel to TAFE for every class,” said Ms Willett.

The Wodonga TAFE careers sessions will occur every Friday from 18 June to 30 July between 12 and 4pm at the Retro Café, 556 Dean Street. Bring yourself and a friend, relax and have a coffee, and then chat about your future and how studying at TAFE can change your life.
