About this course

'Welding certification AS1796'

The Fabrication and Welding Technology department delivers a program for suitably-qualified applicants, providing the necessary training for examination under the government's welding certification code AS1796.

Relevant instruction for certificates 1 to 8 is available.

Entry requirements

  • You need a related trade background, or a minimum of three years welding experience. We recommend that you discuss your experience with our teaching staff before you enrol.
  • You may need a letter from your employer to support your application.
  • An extra cost of $200 will need to be paid to WTIA to sit exam (please see department staff for details).

What to bring

You will need to supply your own safety gear (welding helmet, welding gloves, safety glasses, steel capped boots and Yakka/King-gee type clothing), which must be worn when entering the workshop.
