VCAL is an accredited course that provides an alternative to the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). Successful completion of the VCAL Certificate enables you to continue on to vocational training, apprenticeships or other employment.

What you learn

All levels of VCAL include units from literacy, numeracy, work-related skills and personal development skills. You can also choose industry-specific modules from certificate I or II levels from a range of vocational areas which could include transport and logistics, community services or creative industries (animation, fashion, etc).

Details

Delivery method and course duration

This course is delivered full-time over one year for each level of VCAL.

  • Foundation level
    Dates Mondays to Thursdays, 6 February to 8 November 2012.
    Time 9.00am-1.30pm.
  • Intermediate and Senior levels
    Dates Tuesdays to Fridays, 7 February to 9 November 2012.
    Time 9.00am-1.30pm.

Entry requirements

  • You must be over 16 years of age to enrol into VCAL. Variations to this entry requirement are considered under special circumstances.
  • You need to complete an application and attend an interview before your enrolment can be accepted.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • Assessment will be conducted via observation, questioning, practical demonstrations and oral presentations, reflective journals, logbooks, folios, participation in all class activities, written work and assignments.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and they will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

All participants who successfully complete this course will receive a VCAL certificate and a statement of attainment listing all units successfully completed.
