About this course

This learners motorbike training course provides you with the training you need to obtain a motorcycle learner’s permit in Victoria, as required by VicRoads. You receive skills training and testing, as required by VicRoads. If you successfully complete this course, you do not need to attend a VicRoads office to receive your motorcycle learner’s permit.

You are allocated a Honda CB250 motorcycle for the duration of the course.

What you learn

  • Motorcycle safety inspection
  • Locating and operating motorcycle controls
  • Right and left turns
  • Motorcycle control and balance at slow speed
  • Changing gear
  • Braking.

Entry requirements

  • You must buy (from VicRoads or from a newsagent) and study a current Victorian riders’ handbook before the course begins.
  • You must obtain medical clearance from VicRoads before you start the course if you have a medical condition other than corrective eye lenses or asthma that is treated with a puffer.
  • Your blood alcohol content must be 0.0%.

What to bring

  • Please bring original documentation for proof of identity. Photo ID is mandatory.
  • Full skin cover is NISTC policy.
  • You must wear sturdy footwear (no thongs).
  • You must wear strong clothing (for example, made from denim or leather) to cover your arms and legs (no shorts, singlets, or t-shirts).
  • Bring wet weather clothing if necessary.

Assessment

  • Your eyesight will be assessed.
  • You will be assessed on theory from the Victorian riders’ handbook.
  • You will undergo a skills test.
