Where this course may lead

If you successfully complete this course, you may find work in any sector of the tourism industry as a department manager, manager, or owner-operator of any style of small tourism business.

Job roles may include working as a visitor information centre manager, a tour operations manager, a reservations manager, a retail travel agency manager, a director and/or manager (owner-operator) of a small tourism business, a sales/marketing manager, or a tourism manager.

What you learn

You develop business skills in financial management, sales and marketing, managing staff, occupational health and safety, and legal knowledge.

Your specific tourism studies focus on reservations, destination product knowledge, research, and the development of tourism product.

Delivery method and course duration

Course duration 1 year.

Course mode Full-time, part-time, or distance education. This course is delivered on campus and off campus through flexible delivery, depending on the units you choose.

For 2011, classes commence in February 2011 and will end late November 2011.

Entry requirements

  • There are no formal pre-requisites for this qualification. We recommend that you have completed Year 10 as a minimum, or that you enrol as a mature-aged student.
  • You may be required to attend an interview.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • Observation at work, Observation in simulated environment (e.g. at TAFE), Project/assignment/activity, Practical assessment, On-the-job assessment, Interview/oral questioning, Portfolio of your work, Third party (workplace) report, Learning Journal.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

If you successfully complete this course, you receive an AQF qualification.
