Where this course may lead

This course is for you if you want a career in interior decoration and design. You develop the knowledge and skills you need to work in this exciting and growing professional field.

These courses may lead to a variety of career paths including work as an interior design consultant, interior decorator, or colour consultant in retail, commercial, or residential environments.

What you learn

You develop computer-aided design (CAD), freehand, and manual drawing skills. You learn about colour theory, product knowledge, advanced communication skills, soft furnishings, business practice and management, lighting design, design history, and principles and elements of the built environment, culminating in project design and management.

Residential and commercial projects are covered in these courses.

Details

Delivery method and course duration

These courses are offered full-time over two years or part-time over four to six years.

Certificate IV in Interior Decoration (LMF40408) is incorporated into the first year of study.

Entry requirements

  • Students will be selected through an interview process.
  • Entry via Certificate IV: If the Certificate IV in Interior Decoration has been achieved, only ten (10) additional units are required to achieve the diploma qualification.
  • Direct entry: If you have not completed the Certificate IV in Interior Decoration, you will be required to complete twenty eight (28) units of competency in order to achieve the Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • You will be assessed on completion of allocated assignments and presentation of projects.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

If you successfully complete this course, you will receive an AQF qualification.
