Where this course may lead

It’s never too late to improve your skills and go back to study.

Learners can use this course as a pathway to further study such as certificate and diploma courses, or to employment.

What you learn

Enrolling in the Certificate in General Education for Adults (CGEA) is usually the first step for mature age or younger people who haven't completed their secondary education or who want to improve or update literacy, maths, computer and general education skills.

As a student, your dual enrolment in both the Certificate I in General Education for Adults and Certificate II in General Education for Adults allows you to develop underpinning skills at the certificate I level and develop further skills at the certificate II level.

Delivery method and course duration

This course is delivered full-time three days per week over 16 weeks, or part-time one evening per week over 37 weeks.

Full-time course

  • Dates Wednesdays to Fridays, 15 February to 22 June 2012, or 25 July to 30 November 2012
  • Time 9.30am-3.30pm.

Part-time course (ongoing enrolments)

  • Dates Wednesdays, 15 February to 28 November 2012
  • Time 5.00pm-8.45pm.

Location

First Floor, Building W, Wodonga TAFE.

Entry requirements

You need to attend an interview and have a literacy assessment displaying Year 9 standards of literacy and numeracy.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • Assessment will be conducted via observation, participation in all class activities, written work and assignments.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and they will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

All participants who successfully complete this course will gain a Certificate I in General Education for Adults and a Certificate II in General Education for Adults.

Fees and charges

Fees vary depending on your individual circumstances. This is a Foundation Skills course. If you meet the citizenship/residency requirements your maximum fees for 2012 are likely to be as follows:

Full-time course

$500 tuition, $150 student amenities fee and $120 materials/excursion fee; total $770.

Concession fee $50 tuition, $75 student amenities fee and $120 materials/excursion fee; total $245.

Part-time course

$500 tuition, $150 student amenities fee and $90 materials/excursion fee; total $740.

Concession fee $50 tuition, $75 student amenities fee and $90 materials/excursion fee for a total of $215.
