In this second year of study (following the Certificate III in Motorsport) you will achieve the Certificate IV in Motorsport, which is supported by additional units of competency identified as valuable to the motorsports industry. This program develops more advanced technical skills in preparation for a successful career in the industry.
What you learn
Continuing on from the Certificate III in Motorsport, you learn about the more advanced technical aspects of motorsport including:
- vehicle setup including the selection of wheels, tyres, spring rates and aerodynamic settings
- 3-dimensional computer-aided drawing (CAD), finite element analysis, CNC machining, shock absorber and engine testing using a dynamometer.
- Overhauling assemblies such as engines, transmissions and brakes
- Advanced composites including making patterns and moulds
- A range of additional automotive competencies including LPG systems, forced induction, ABS brakes and stability control systems
Theory (classroom activity) is consolidated with ‘hands on’ workshops and trackside experience with a range of MTA equipment including a V8 Supercar, Formula Fords, karts, a turbocharged sports sedan, a speedway car and other vehicles from our partner organisations. You are also offered placement with motorsport teams to assist at trackside events, providing opportunities for students to build networks and contacts.
