Where this course may lead

This course provides you with the skills you need to work as an information officer, a booking agent, or a sales consultant in the visitor information sector of the tourism industry. Alternatively, you could gain employment with a destination marketing company that fulfils dual information and sales functions for particular tourism destinations.

What you learn

You learn how to provide the customer with relevant and accurate information by using online information systems, product knowledge, and sales.

You also develop knowledge about other general interpersonal skills, office procedures, occupational health and safety, and computing skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this qualification. We recommend that you have completed Year 10 as a minimum, or that you enrol as a mature-aged student.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • Observation at work, Observation in simulated environment (e.g. at TAFE), Project / assignment / activity, Practical assessment, On-the-job assessment, Interview / oral questioning, Portfolio of your work, Third party (workplace) report, Learning Journal.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and they will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

If you successfully complete this course, you receive an AQF qualification.
