Overview

Where this course may lead

This is the base qualification required to gain a registration with the Building Commission of Victoria or a structural landscape license in NSW. It is a trade-level course that could lead to running your own landscape contracting company or working for an employer.

Landscape work may include residential properties, commercial or local government projects.

What you learn

You will learn skills and knowledge to allow you to undertake structural projects including: paving, timber construction, brick and block laying, concreting, stonework, irrigation, site set out and levelling.

The course may also include plant knowledge, turf establishment, retaining walls, drainage, maintenance requirements, soils analysis, machinery operation as well as OH&S and environmental obligations and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

You need basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • Assessments will be varied, including observation, practical demonstration and/or assignment work and written assessments.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and they will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive an AQF qualification and a statement listing all units.
