Where this course may lead

In the second year at MTA you will complete the Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology which is a requirement to become a recognised vehicle mechanic. This course will open the door to a range of automotive careers, not just in motorsports.

This course is taught in conjunction with the Certificate IV in Motorsport

What you learn

Continuing on from the auto units you completed as part of your Certificate III in Motorsport, you learn about some of the more advanced technical aspects of auto technology including:

  • servicing ignition systems
  • servicing diesel engines
  • forced induction, ABS brakes and stability control systems
  • overhauling assemblies such as engines, transmissions and brakes
  • removing and replacing engines
  • servicing LPG systems.

Theory (classroom activity) is consolidated with ‘hands on’ learning.

Delivery method and course duration

Course duration 12 months

Course mode Full-time on campus. Classes are conducted at our workshop in Romet Road, West Wodonga, and at the main TAFE campus.

Entry requirements

You need to have completed the Certificate III in Motorsport.
