Where this course may lead

This course provides you with the knowledge and skills that will enable you to pursue a career or further study in one of the many aspects of fashion design. 

You will develop your skills by completing a range of assignments which focus on design understanding and realisation, alongside technical and business awareness, to gain a complete experience of the fashion industry.

What you learn

You will develop your fashion illustration and visual communication skills using a range of materials and techniques. 

You will expand your understanding of all aspects of the fashion design process, from the exploration of ideas and concepts, design development and communication, fabric sourcing and selection, pattern cutting and garment construction, to the finished product and client presentation. 

You will explore consumer-behaviour-related fashion trends and how collections are developed to produce key looks, the cultural and social impact of fashion, brand analysis and market awareness. You will also look at the career pathways available in the fashion industry, including design and visual merchandising for the fashion and lifestyle industries.

Entry requirements

  • There are no formal requirements for this course, but a background or an interest in art or design is desirable. 
  • You need sound language and literacy skills, and you will be assessed on your suitability for the program during an individual interview process.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • You will be assessed on completion of allocated assignments and presentation of projects.

Your teacher will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit, and they will assist you with any support that you need.

Outcomes and accreditations

If you successfully complete this course, you will receive an AQF qualification.
