Where this course may lead

This course provides you with the skills and knowledge required for employment in the horticultural industry in areas such as local councils, landscape contractors, golf courses or nurseries. Successful completion of this course may also lead to further study at certificate III, IV or diploma level.

What you learn

This course provides you with an introduction for working within any horticultural enterprise, such as turf management, landscaping, parks and gardens, arboriculture and nursery. This course covers multiple streams. Study horticulture or specialise in one of the following areas: landscape, retail nursery, parks and gardens, or turf.

Course duration 6-12 months.

Course mode Traineeship, or full-time, or part-time, or distance education.

Entry requirements

Basic literacy and numeracy skills are required.

You need to wear suitable clothing and footwear, for example, safety boots, broad-brimmed hat, collared shirt. Some other personal protective equipment will be required depending on units of study, for example, earplugs or earmuffs are required when using machinery.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:

  • Assessment will be conducted through observation, practical demonstration and/or coursework.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and they will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

On successful completion of this course you will receive an AQF qualification.
