Overview

Where this course may lead

This course gives you the skills and knowledge you need to find employment or gain an apprenticeship in the cabinet making industry. It also provides you with credits towards a cabinet making apprenticeship.

What you learn

You learn the skills, knowledge and techniques you require for cabinet making.  You will also gain experience in using hand and power tools to build interesting pieces of furniture. You develop the skills involved in reading and using plans to build projects such as a hall table, a dining chair and a modular unit.

Delivery method and course duration

This course is delivered full-time over 16 weeks, three days per week attending TAFE (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).

This course may also be studied as a subject for VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning).

Entry requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements.
  • You must be at least 16 years of age to enrol.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following:

  • You will be assessed through a combination of practical work, project work and theory testing.

Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and will assist with any support you may need.

Outcomes and accreditations

When you successfully complete this course, you will receive an AQF qualification.
