Where this course may lead

When you successfully complete this course, you may have employment opportunities with architects, builders, building designers, building inspectors, or surveyors. This course may articulate into degree courses in architecture, building construction management, and interior design.

This qualification to your registration as a building designer, as required in Victoria by the Building Commission.

What you learn

You learn to assume the role of project administrator on large jobs or to run your own drafting office as a building designer after you gain appropriate work experience.

Delivery method and course duration

Course duration 3 years | Course mode Full-time.

This course is delivered full-time over three years (the third year comprises on- and off-campus studies 1 day per week).

Entry requirements

  • Students will be selected through an interview process.
  • You require sound English language and literacy skills.
  • You will need to have successfully completed Year 12, or enrol as a mature age applicant and/or have relevant work experience in the building industry.

Assessment

The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following: you will be assessed on projects, completion of allocated assignments, and presentation of design projects. Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and will assist with any support you may need.
