About this course
This course is suitable for electricians, data cablers, telecommunications personnel, computer systems technicians, and cable TV installers who want to enter into the business of telecommunications cabling.
You learn to perform all types of telecommunications cabling (except cabling that requires a specialist endorsement) in any type of premises, for example, domestic, commercial, or industrial.
Entry requirements
- We recommend you have at least six months cabling experience before you apply.
- Non-electricians may need to do further study before the course starts, or may need to go through a recognition of prior learning process.

Course 1
Thursday, Friday and Saturday 19-21 April and Thursday and Friday 3-4 May 2012 (5 sessions).
Course 2
Thursday, Friday and Saturday 19-21 July and Thursday and Friday 2-3 August 2012 (5 sessions)
Course 3
Thursday, Friday and Saturday 1-3 November and Thursday and Friday 15-16 November 2012 (5 sessions)
Times Thursdays 1pm-9pm, Fridays 8.30am-5.30pm and Saturday 8.30am-3pm.
Assessment
The level of competency you develop from your training will be assessed using the following methods:
- a regulation (wiring rules) examination
- practical installation and testing of cabling systems
- assignments and tests.
Your teachers will provide you with more information on specific requirements at the start of each unit and will assist with any support you may need.
Outcomes
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a statement of attainment.

Fees and charges
Fees vary depending on your individual circumstances. For those eligible under the Victorian Training Guarantee, the 2012 tuition fees will be $463; $286 with concession. The Ineligible (fee-for-service) fee is $957.
