Visa requirements
Most people who come to Australia to study will require a
student visa. People who do not require a student visa include
those who intend to study for less than three months, or when study
is combined with significant amounts of work. In these cases, other
types of visas will be more appropriate.
Student visas and other visas used for study in Australia are
administered by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
(DIAC). The DIAC website should be used to find up-to-date
information on all Australian visa issues.
All students who intend to study in Australia for longer than
three months are required to obtain a student visa.
Visa subclasses
There are several different types, or subclasses, of student
visa. Most of the subclasses are linked to an education sector. You
should check the DIAC website for which student visa subclass is
right for you. There are also conditions attached to the student visa you
should be aware of which are described on the DIAC website.
For the most up-to-date and detailed information on student
visas go to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
website.
