Skills recognition - student testimonials

Did you know that all of your life experiences and skills make up the pieces of your career? By discussing those skills and experiences with our advisers you may find that you have already gained some parts of a qualification.

Once you have gained formal recognition of your skills by completing a qualification you can add this to your resumé, take on additional tasks at work or even apply for a promotion.

'I heard about Recognition of Prior Learning from a friend, and right away I looked into it. I'd worked in administration for years, but hadn't had the opportunity to receive formal qualifications.'

'The people at Wodonga TAFE were so helpful during the RPL process. They thoroughly and professionally explained what was involved, as well as the benefits I'd receive. With my past work experience and training, I received a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting). Everything was very well handled.'

'It feels great to finally have formal recognition of all the hard work and study I've done in the past. I'd always assumed that if I wanted to get qualifications I'd have to start from scratch. Now I'm working with my co-workers in the disability sector to see what kind of qualifications they can get!'

‘The recognition of prior learning (RPL) process has given me great job opportunities and provided credit for my university degree. The staff at Wodonga TAFE were great. The first person I spoke to mapped my previous studies to see how RPL could help. With my years of working in marketing, events and tourism, I received a Certificate III, a Diploma of Events and a Diploma of Tourism’, says Katie.

Though she already had skills and experience, having the pieces of paper led to great job opportunities, and she’s now working as an events and functions coordinator while studying. Katie’s RPL qualifications count as credit points in her Bachelor of Business degree.

‘It might sound corny, but it really changed my life. If I hadn't done RPL, I probably would have lost interest in studying and wouldn't have enrolled at university at the ripe old age of 25. You might not think a qualification or job you held years ago would be of any relevance, but that's what Wodonga TAFE can help you with. You don't know how far you can go until you speak to someone’.
