The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) is available to VTAC applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage. SEAS allows VTAC selection officers to grant extra consideration for course entry to VTAC applicants but it is not used as a replacement for course entry requirements.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for SEAS you must:
- lodge a VTAC application, and
- have Australian or New Zealand citizenship or hold a permanent Australian visa.
There are 10 SEAS categories, of which Wodonga TAFE will consider applications under the following:
Category 1: Mature age consideration
For those aged 18 years of age or older on 1 January in the year in which they enrol and who have been out of full-time education for at least one year.
Category 2: Non-English speaking background
Generally applies to applicants who have arrived in Australia within the last 10 years from a non-English speaking country and who have been born outside Australia in a non-English speaking country.
Category 3: Recognition as an Indigenous Australian
For those who:
- are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, or
- identify as a person of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage, and
- are accepted as such by an Indigenous community.
Category 4: Difficult circumstances
For those who have been prevented from reaching their full educational potential because of family or other life circumstances. Applicants to this category will need to indicate whether the circumstances are long term (in existence for longer than two years) or short term (existing only in the past two years).
Category 5: Disadvantaged financial background
For those who have been prevented from reaching their full educational potential because of a disadvantaged financial background. Applicants to this category will need to indicate whether the circumstances are long term (in existence for longer than two years) or short term (existing only in the past two years). Applicants must be in receipt of a Centrelink benefit or be able to demonstrate how their disadvantaged financial background has adversely affected their education.
Category 6: Applicants from rural or isolated areas
For those applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage as a result of either undertaking their schooling in a rural or isolated area (as defined by the Australian Standard Geographic Classification Remoteness Areas classification) and/or having to move from such an area to undertake their tertiary course. Applicants to this category will need to indicate whether the circumstances are long term (in existence for longer than two years) or short term (existing only in the past two years).
Category 9: Disability or medical condition
For those who have experienced educational disadvantage as a result of a disability or medical condition. Applicants to this category will need to indicate whether the circumstances are long term (in existence for longer than two years) or short term (existing only in the past two years).
Category 10: Refugee background
For those who currently are, have been, or identify themselves as being refugees. Applicants to this category will need to indicate whether the circumstances are long term (in existence for longer than two years) or short term (existing only in the past two years).
